Field Review - Addition / Alteration - Interior alterations for to install temporary shoring on the basement level of this existing mixed use building on this site. Note: The basement foundation where this work is being proposed in the areaway under the city sidewalk. Separate permits will be required to complete the permanent solution for eliminating all the areaways. Letter of assurance provided by: Alexander Evseev, P.Eng.M.Sc, Structural Schedule B Structures response: “City has reviewed the proposed repairs to the existing areaway structure that encroaches on City’s sidewalk. The submitted memo and structural drawings indicate that all supporting steel beams are in poor condition due to prolonged exposure to moisture and that the existing concrete topping spanning over the steel beam does not currently require remedial work. As all main supporting steel beams are in poor condition, City cannot accept the proposed application and requires that the areaway structure is decommissioned instead of being repaired as proposed in this application, due to potential public safety risk associated with continued deterioration of the steel beams and continued deterioration of the concrete topping spanning over the steel beams. Please see attached submission requirements for areaway removal/decommissioning.”
